Mar k B. Humphrey AMNS

Mark learnt his initial stone carving techniques from Gozitan sculptor, Joseph Xuereb on Gozo, Malta. Following his return to the UK, Mark studied sculpting techniques at the University of Hertfordshire.

His sculptures can be described as figurative to abstract and are hand-carved in a wide range of limestones, soapstone and other more exotic stones.

He normally works in cut stone blocks ranging from 20 Kgs up to several tonnes. He also produces limited edition sculptures from the original in Foundry Bronze, Aluminium, and composite metal and stone resins.

“ I take my inspiration from natural forms, relationships and facets of human emotions. I am strongly influenced by my surroundings and landscapes.”

Mark exhibits widely in galleries and group shows in the UK and, more recently, in Gibraltar. His sculptures have been selected by the Royal Society of British Artists for their annual exhibitions in London on several occasions.

Mark was elected an Associate of the National Society of Painters, Sculptors and Printmakers in 2003 whose previous members included LS Lowry and Henry Moore. He was also elected a member of the Fine Art Association, Gibraltar in 2006.

Based in Royston, Hertfordshire, Mark's sculptures can be found in public and private collections and gardens throughout the UK and in France, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Switzerland and the U.S.A.
